Students of an enrichment program at Kakiat Elementary School built a boat out of recycled materials in what might ironically be the program's last days afloat.
Kakiat's Enriched Thinking Program will likely be cut from next year's budget. Teacher Paul Mindich says the program has helped create 'teachable moments' for the students.
"This is what you remember about school," says Mindich. "It's a really important thing that's gonna be missed."
A final decision on the program's fate is expected to be made by the end of the month.
