More details are coming out about what led up to an hours long standoff in Stamford Tuesday.
Police say Jed Parkington, who barricaded himself in his home, died by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot at 263 Oaklawn Ave., right across the street from Fairfield Memorial Park.
Stamford police say a second body that appeared to be decomposing was found in the home. Explosives were also found.
Oaklawn Avenue is still closed between Dann Drive and Dartley Street as police continue their investigation.
News 12 Connecticut video shows the scary scene Tuesday afternoon as Stamford Police exchanged gun fire with a man who barricaded himself inside his home.
"Back up, back up! Gunfire, gunfire! Get out of here!," police can be heard saying.
"It’s such a quiet neighborhood. There's lots of kids here. So to hear tons of shots go off. It sounded like AR's. It sounded like a tree was falling," said neighbor Mark Exantus.
Multiple agencies, including the Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Unit, responded to the scene.
Court records show the home was recently repossessed by Wells Fargo Bank. Stamford Superior Court received letters from the couple who lived there stating their hardship.
The man's wife wrote in one of the letters, "please have mercy on me and allow me, my husband and my dog, to stay in my home until after the holidays, March 2026. winter is coming and i'm afraid i am going to be left on the street."
"I live around the corner, so I knew them from doing eviction work for them. Decent people who actually got behind on their mortgage," said Stamford Constable Jon Gallup.
A realtor handling the sale of the home told News 12 Connecticut when the marshal showed up Tuesday morning with a moving van, the man answered the door with cannisters tied to his waist saying, "This won't end well."
"They were in bad health. Both of them had some issues. This is totally sad. It shouldn't have happened," said Gallup.
The realtor says there are still plans to sell the house, even after all the damage.
No officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire.
The Office of the Inspector General is conducting an investigation and will release body-camera footage of the incident this weekend.
