The owner of the building that houses the VA clinic in Stamford said Wednesday they have signed a new lease.
Summer Street Properties says the lease for the clinic will be for a year.
Close to 1,500 veterans are served by the clinic located at 1275 Summer St.
Prior to the news, the clinic faced an uncertain future due to lease negotiations. On Tuesday, the executive director for the Connecticut VA Healthcare System
met with patients, but was not able to provide answers on its status.
As News 12 has reported, Summer Street Properties said they wanted the
clinic to remain open and were willing to freeze the rent as they have previously done.
Following the announcement, the company released the following statement:
"For the sixth year in a row, the property owner has not increased the VA's rent. Additionally, and despite some speculation to the contrary, the Government's standard VA lease has been in place continuously since 2005. This represents the 12th time the VA has renewed its lease at 1275 Summer Street. 1275 Summer Street is owned by a long-time Stamford family whose members include veterans and active-duty military. The family has a history of dedication to Stamford area veterans, and in 2005 established this ideal first-floor medical space for this purpose. The family is committed to the VA's continued success at 1275 Summer Street for any period the VA may choose—from 1 to 10 years—or longer,"
