State police say an autopsy confirmed that a woman whose remains were found in April in Putnam County was the victim of a homicide.

The remains had earlier been identified as 25-year-old Karen Ramsey, of Southeast. She was last seen in May 1980.

The remains were recovered at the site of a home that is being built in Patterson.

DNA testing confirmed her identity.

Officials had not released Ramsey's cause of death as of Thursday evening.
