State police have confirmed that the shooting incident in Mount Vernon, which resulted in three individuals being injured, involved an off-duty member of the Mount Vernon Police Department.
Due to the involvement of a police officer, state police are leading the investigation instead of the Mount Vernon Police Department. Details regarding the officer’s involvement have not been released.
The shooting occurred late Saturday night on the 300 block of South 4th Ave. While two individuals sustained gunshot wounds, a total of three people were transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
Throughout the night and day, a significant law enforcement presence was observed in the neighborhood. Access to the road was restricted by police officers, and investigators conducted thorough door-to-door canvassing to gather relevant information.
Although local reports suggest that a party might have escalated into a confrontation leading to the shooting, law enforcement has not yet confirmed this narrative. Residents in the area expressed their unease about the situation.
Faith Walters of Mount Vernon shared her interaction with law enforcement: "They explained to me that there was a shooting on the block and that they wanted to check my camera and things like that."
At present, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
