The state has rejected plans for a proposed natural gas power plant in Newburgh.
The Danskammer Energy Center has been the focus of numerous protests over the year, including one along the Hudson River last August.
The DEC sided with those protesters saying the project would be inconsistent or interfere with the statewide greenhouse gas emission limits, established in the Climate Act.
They also said the company failed to demonstrate the need or justification for the proposed project.
The company had no immediate comment to the decision, but said in the past that, if approved, the new facility would result in lower emissions and utility bills.
