The candidates are vying for the 37th state Senate District seat, currently held by long-time Democratic incumbent Oppenheimer. Her Republican challenger, Cohen, is a Scarsdale businessman.
The two candidates remained on topic throughout most of the debate, discussing top issues from property taxes to state spending.
During the debate, Cohen confronted Oppenheimer on her vote to approve the controversial MTA payroll tax, saying it would not have passed if she had voted against it. Cohen also questioned whether voters wanted her in office for a 27th and 28th year.
Oppenheimer defended her decisions and says despite what some voters think, lawmakers accomplished a lot in Albany this past term. She also called on Cohen's business experiences, citing 600 outstanding complaints and violations he has paid fines for.
The 37th district covers parts of New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, Harrison, New Castle, North Castle, Ossining, Rye and White Plains.
Voters will weigh in at the polls on Nov. 2.
