A New York state Supreme Court judge has ruled that a Rockland house, where over 30 migrants were found to be living last month, can only be used as a single-family residence.
The judge issued a final order in a lawsuit filed by the Town of Clarkstown against the owner of 295 New Hempstead Road.
Building inspectors had discovered the overcrowding. The town can inspect the house at any time, and the building department must grant approval before it is occupied as a single-family residence.
Town Supervisor George Hoehmann considers the ruling a victory for the town, stating that all residents have been evacuated, and the house is currently vacant.
