The results of a state probe into the death of a Rye Playland ride operator are expected next week as her family and the county debate the cause of her death.
The state Department of Labor is probing how Gabriela Garin, 21, died last month while on the Mind Scrambler. According to Westchester County officials, Garin failed to follow procedure and went for a spin during her shift. Garin's relatives argue the ride is unsafe.
They cite the death of a 7-year-old girl who got free from a restraining bar and fell to her death in 2004. Garin's death marks the fourth one over the past four years.
County leaders are expected to decide whether the Mind Scrambler will be permanently shut down after the state releases its report.
