Changes to the economic stimulus bill in Washington could bring more money to police departments across Rockland County.
A community policing initiative would mean an extra $1 million, enough for about 20 new police officers.
"It's always good to see federal money flow into the city," says Martin Finklestein, of Middletown. "It helps me doubly, because I'm a criminal defense lawyer so more cops means more business for me."
If the Middletown Police Department were able to support four more police salaries, officials say more officers would be put into local stores and restaurants.
