Stony Point police are warning residents about a scammer impersonating one of the department's officers.

A Facebook post by the department says the scammer calls and texts residents asking for donations to the department.

Officials emphasize that they will never call or text anyone asking for any type of money.

If you live in the area and receive a call like this, authorities advise hanging up immediately and reporting it to the Stony Point Police Department at 845-786-2744.
