STORM WATCH: Latimer declares state of emergency for Westchester County

Westchester County Executive George Latimer declared a “local state of emergency” that will begin at 10 p.m. Monday to “ensure the safety and well-being of the residents.”
According to the county executive:
“The impending storm is expected to bring heavy snowfall, creating hazardous conditions that may lead to downed trees, road closures, travel disruptions, power outages and potential damage to public and private property throughout the County. Recognizing the threat to public transportation, utility services and public safety systems, the Local State of Emergency is a proactive measure to protect the community.”

During a news conference earlier in the day, Latimer urged residents to stay off the roads, check for delays at airports and public transit and to stay away from any downed wires.
“Be a good neighbor and check on senior citizens who live near you, or persons who live alone,” Latimer said in a news release.
News 12’s Storm Watch Team meteorologists say up to a foot of snow is expected in some northern parts of the Hudson Valley. Westchester County could see up to six inches.
