This morning, the Storm Prediction Center has increased the risk for severe weather in the Hudson Valley to a level 3 out of 5 for areas in Rockland and Orange counties. This is the first time the "Enhanced" risk has been issued for the region so far this year.
The morning is dry and hot with temperatures soaring into the upper 80s and low 90s by noontime under a mix of sun and clouds. It will be humid which will fuel storms later this afternoon.
Storms will pop up as early as 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. with the greatest risk for storms between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Storms will be scattered which means a few neighborhoods will remain dry. Storms that develop will contain frequent lightning and produce localized flooding and the potential for wind damage. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Tune into News12 throughout the day for the latest information. We will be live if any storms that pose a threat to life or property.
REST OF THE WEEK:
Friday: Mild and less humid
It's a beautiful official start to summertime with a mix of sun and clouds, highs in the mid 80s and less humidity.
Saturday: Hotter
It's sunny to start, then a few clouds will arrive in the afternoon. Hot with highs in the upper 80s.
Sunday: Cloudy but hot
A stray shower or storm is possible on Sunday, otherwise expect hot and humid conditions. Highs near 90 degrees.
Monday through Wednesday: Extreme heat
High temperatures will soar into the mid to upper 90s and could potentially reach near 100 degrees on Tuesday. The all-time record high for the month of June in White Plains is 97-degrees. We could potentially break that record. Conditions will be dry, but humidity will make it feel like it's 102-108.
