Dozens of tenants facing eviction at a dilapidated Suffern apartment complex now have a temporary reprieve from a judge.
A group of tenants at the Tall Oaks Complex on Pavilion Road, represented by Legal Aid, won a little more time in their homes Friday thanks to a judge's order. The village ordered four units vacated because they are structurally unsound. The problem was discovered after a recent electrical fire, but some tenants complain the village should have known about the problems sooner.
"Every single year you have to pass inspection," said a tenant who only wanted to be identified as Raphael. "How come we passed that inspection? That is the big question."
Several renters are now suing the village. The village attorney will be back in court Tuesday to deal with the issue.
