A candlelight vigil was held in Sullivan County Saturday night to honor the 16-month-old girl who was found dead earlier this week in a Liberty motel room.
Police say Akassha Luvert died from alleged exposure to fentanyl by her parents, just weeks after her babysitter said she tried to get the family help.
At least 50 people gathered to remember and honor the little girl's life.
Both Akassha's grandparents were there and told News 12 a memorial service will also be held for their granddaughter sometime this week.
"What I'd say to my granddaughter right now, I would love to hold her, I would love her to be here with me right now, I want her here now this second. That's what I want and I don't have that because of my daughter and her husband using drugs," said Elena Diaz, Akassha's grandmother.
Akassha's parents are charged with criminally negligent homicide and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
