The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office is appealing to the public for assistance following a severe case of animal abuse in Monticello.

Officials reported that last week, a dead pit bull was found inside a crate on Cold Spring Road.

Due to the graphic nature of the scene, News 12 has decided not to broadcast images of the animal.

The Sheriff's Office is currently working to identify and locate the dog's owner.
