Students and faculty held a rally at SUNY Orange Wednesday to remember the 32 victims of the Virginia Tech massacre.
Dozens of people also participated in a special panel discussion on the massacre. Student Renaldo Van Couten organized the gathering, which brought professors, students and campus security leaders together. The focus was not only on campus security, but also on acceptance of others.
Orange County native Caitlin Hammeren was killed in the massacre. A member of the SUNY Orange faculty is also a graduate of Virginia Tech. Those two factors gave the discussion an increased poignancy.
The students and faculty also recorded what they called a "vocal vigil" after the discussion. The recording of those condolences will be sent to Virginia Tech.
