Sleepy Hollow has been voted the 10th safest city in New York, according to a survey conducted by SafeWise.

Village Administrator Anthony Giacco attributes this achievement to the community’s willingness to help each other.

"We have a great community here, everybody comes to each other's aid. We have a great ambulance, a great fire department, we also have a great police department,” he said.

Sleepy Hollow Chief of Police Anthony Bueti says the police department has invested a lot of time and energy in creating a good relationship with the village.

"Like any relationship, you have to work at it. Both sides have to work together to achieve the ultimate goal of making Sleepy Hollow one of the safest places to live,” he said.

The village primarily sees petty crimes, and in his six-year tenure on the job, he has seen a drop in the overall number of arrests.

"I’ve kind of tracked some of the patterns, and it appears to be people out of the village, out of our jurisdiction, a lot of times even from out of state,” Bueti said.

Rye was voted the third safest city in the entire country. Town Mayor Josh Cohn also believes their police department has helped make that possible.

“We really found that our police force is admired and beloved by the people in the town. We feel our police force is a part of our community, and another is a really alert and engaged group of residents,” he said.
