Susan Cacace was sworn in as Westchester County district attorney on Monday in White Plains.
Cacace is a Democrat who won the race against Republican John Sarcone last year. Cacace won with 64% of the vote.
"I've been preparing a long time for this," says Cacace. "Jan. 1, we started. We started in the office and organizing people, units, moving things around, setting my priorities, meeting with members of the office, meeting with community leaders."
Cacace says it's an honor to be elected and to start the position and she's looking forward to using her background as a judge and assistant district attorney in this new role.
One of my biggest priorities, and I've been saying this all along, is to keep residents of Westchester safe," she says. "And try to work with law enforcement, to collaborate with law enforcement, to work with community leaders, to identify crimes before they take place."
Both county and state officials spoke at the inauguration as well.
"She's successfully prosecuted cases against sex offenders, drugs, drug traffickers, ad individuals who have committed unspeakable crimes," says Attorney General Letitia James,
