Police say one suspect is in custody after barricading themselves inside a Newburgh gas station on Saturday.
Mayor Torrence Harvey told News 12 there was one alleged armed robber and one clerk inside.
Newburgh police, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Troopers and SWAT teams responded to the incident.
Harvey said they did a major sweep of the facility and negotiations with the suspect took place.
Authorities were then able to arrest the suspect and remove the clerk, who was unharmed.
Newburgh police also said reports of a second suspect were unconfirmed as of Saturday evening.
Roads near the gas station were closed for a period during the investigation but have since reopened.
The gas station also reopened for business.
People who live near the scene told News 12 that they were startled by the incident.
"It feels like a scene out of a movie. It's very crazy. Kids were scared,” said resident Yakita Williams.
"There were a bunch of police cars, and they were out there for quite a while," said Cassius Vazquez.
