The Tappan Zee High School girls basketball team beat No. 1 ranked Pittsford Mendon to advance to the state championship.

The team made history earlier this month by winning its first section championship.

Tappan Zee fans made the trip to Troy to root on the girls, who jumped out to a six-point halftime lead. They grew the lead to 10 in the fourth quarter and hung on to win 44-41.

The state championship game is Saturday.
