A Poughkeepsie community is mourning a teenager who died suddenly Thursday at summer camp.

A 15-year-old who was training to be a counselor at Greenvale Park suffered a sudden medical issue.

Local officials say that the camp's EMTs, as well as first responders quickly administered aid and rushed him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"The devastation of losing a child is nothing any family would ever want to deal with. And you can never say enough words for a family going through something like this. It’s a tragedy and our heart goes out to the family," said Poughkeepsie town supervisor Jon Baisley.
