307ds agoThe owner of a tennis club in Westchester County is reflecting on the long road to recovery 10 years after Superstorm Sandy devastated his facility.
"Our bubbles were flooded, the building was underwater and the business was shut down," said Shawn Dyer, owner of Tennis Club of Hastings.
The club is located on the shore of the Hudson River in Hastings-on-Hudson and suffered major flooding damage.
All of the electrical and plumbing fixtures needed to be replaced. The facilities deck was washed away and had to be rebuilt.
"The courts had an incredible amount of damage," Dyer added. "We had to do extensive repairs."
The repairs costed more than a half-million dollars.
Then last year the club was dealt another devastating blow when the remnants of Hurricane Ida rolled in.
Courts collapsed and needed massive repairs.
"We had to dig it all out, refill it and rebuild the court," said Dyer.
Despite spending $200,000 more, Dyer said the business is thriving with more than 1,200 people using the facility weekly.
