The Cost Of: Holiday lights
We are shining a light on the cost of lights this holiday season.
Caleb Silver, editor in chief at Investopedia, says, "Your basic strand of lights will cost you around $20 but nobody likes to go basic so folks can spend as much as $500 to $2,000 dollars on lights if you want to wrap the whole house and the front yard, you are spending several thousand dollars on that but you can range anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several thousand."
Silver says that's not even factoring in the electricity bill which Millie Stone of Throgs Neck in The Bronx knows all too well.
When it comes to her utility bill during her holiday light display she says, "November, December like $1,200, January like $1,500."
Now to some deals! News 12's Kristie Reeter went to Home Depot.
She got a smaller strand of lights than the ones Silver mentioned, less lights, less cost. Two boxes of those, each costing $2.98. She also picked up two wreaths and a poinsettia for a total of just $1.05.
That's because she cashed in a free gift card to Home Depot with credit card points, free money!
The deal made her happy to decorate her house, something Millie Stone also gets so much joy from, year after year, saying, "Why not enjoy it, the light of the world is Jesus so when we can shine in somebody's life, we feel very good, very grateful."
