OVERNIGHT: Drenching downpours will be on-and-off through the evening and last through much of the overnight.
STORM WATCH: Rainfall could exceed an inch of rain per hour, which would lead to widespread ponding and some flooding, especially in flood-prone areas. The strongest storms are expected to cross between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. with a chance for one or two of those storms to be severe and carry 60+ mph gusts that could lead to some wind damage.
TUESDAY: Rain will taper off slowly after 1 a.m., ending by about 4 a.m. The morning commute will be rain-free and mostly sunny, but leftover flooded spots will remain, so be careful on the roads for the Tuesday morning rush. There will be plenty of puddles for the kids so make sure they have their rain boots out the door for school.
COLD RETURNS: The storms will usher in a big cold shot during the day Tuesday and especially Tuesday night. High temperatures will struggle to reach the middle 50s, which is typical for this time of year. Add in a cold wind, gusting 20 to 30 mph, it will feel like no better than the 40s. The cold wind will bring a winter feel to the borough into the Wednesday morning commute.
WEDNESDAY: Feels-like temperatures will be down into the middle 20s, with actual low temperatures near 35 degrees. This continues the wild temperature roller coaster from this weekend, which had the largest one hour and three hour temperature drops ever recorded.
From 82 Saturday, down to 42 Sunday morning, back up to 72 Monday, and down to 35 Wednesday morning. This roller coaster keeps going, with another sharp surge of warmth on Thursday with highs jumping into the 70s with a small chance at 80 degrees before another chance of rain and storms by the evening.
