Thousands of East Ramapo Central School District students will soon have free internet access.
It's all thanks to a collaboration between the district and T-Mobile.
The district is receiving 2,100 free wireless hot spots that are now being distributed through a pickup window to families who have been identified as being in need.
About two-thirds of East Ramapo students lack access to a laptop or internet, which is why the superintendent says the initiative is vital to remote learning. Since the spring, the district has been working to fill the digital divide. Last month, the district distributed over 7,000 Chromebooks.
The hot spots come with 100 free gigabytes of data a year.
The district says families who receive one can use it for as long as their child attends the district.
