Today was a normal class day at Nyack Middle School, despite a lockout that was prompted by a reportedly threatening letter found in the girls' bathroom yesterday.
School officials say that a student reported finding the note, described as a bomb threat, yesterday afternoon. The specific contents of the note have not been revealed, but it reportedly suggested that a violent incident would happen at the school on Wednesday.
This morning, the school was swept by police and the Rockland County Bomb Squad, who were unable to locate anything suspicious on campus. Students and staff were selected for random searches as they entered the school today, and school doors remained locked until classes were dismissed. Vehicles were also prevented from approaching the building.
Police say they believe the note was a hoax, written by a student.
