A 3-year-old girl was killed after being ejected from her car seat following a two-car crash on the New York State Thruway in Tuxedo Wednesday.
State police say the driver of a Toyota was traveling southbound when he lost control, went into the center median, then came back onto the Thruway and collided with an SUV. The SUV carrying five people overturned. The driver of the SUV was flown to Westchester Medical Center with head injuries and three others were taken to Good Samaritian Hospital. Police say the 3-year-old was ejected because she was not strapped into her car seat.
The accident closed two of the three southbound lanes between exits 15 and 16 near the Orange-Rockland county line for hours. Police arrested the driver of the Toyota, 42-year-old Felix Colon, of Manhattan, on an unrelated charge. Investigators and the District Attorney's office will determine if Colon will be charged in the crash.
