News 12's Jonathan Gordon offers the latest on road conditions in the Hudson Valley, and how to stay safe during icy conditions.
DPW crews are putting their final preparations in place across the Hudson Valley, ahead of icy weather that will arrive Friday.
In Yonkers, trucks loaded with salt will hit the roads starting at 5 a.m. as temperatures drop and rain changes over to sleet and ice.
Crews are asking everyone to stay home if they can, giving trucks extra space and taking it slow on the roads.
"It just takes one accident and then that cascades. One accident blocks the intersection and then nobody can go anywhere and before we know it you have major traffic jams," says Yonkers Department of Public Works Commissioner Thomas Meier.
The weather is expected to stay unpleasant most of the day.
