Toys and gifts were distributed Friday night to families in Ossining who might not otherwise have a Merry Christmas.
The nonprofit Keeping Communities Safe sponsored the annual toy and gift giveaway program. The organization helps about 50 underserved families and children throughout Westchester County.
The event was coordinated with the help of the nonprofit's community partner, Phelps Hospital.
Families said the event puts a smile on their children's faces when they're facing financial and economic challenges during the holiday season.
The Christmas gift-giving program, which started in 2007, is the brainchild of Keeping Communities Safe CEO Davida Gilchrest, who saw a need that she wanted to fulfill.
Gilchrest said the event is to help underserved families, those suffering because of economic reasons and children whose families are incarcerated. She explained the goal is to ensure they can open a present every year for the holiday season.
