Swift water teams, emergency rescue crews on standby during storm in Orange County
Orange County Emergency Management officials are keeping a close watch on several municipalities for flooding during Tuesday night’s storm.
In Washingtonville, officials say they're concerned about the Moodna Creek cresting due to the rainfall in a short amount of time, coupled with melting snow from the weekend storm.
Orange County has activated its emergency operations center and officials say swift water teams and public safety officials are on standby county wide.
Folks in the area say they’re running last-minute errands before the conditions get worse.
“Just getting some wood for the fireplace in case the electric goes out,” says Craig VanDunk, from Monroe. “We were totally flooded out the last storm. It was really terrible.”
The Office of Emergency Management says they’re also keeping a close watch on several other flood-prone communities in Orange County including Cornwall, Highland Falls, Deerpark and Newburgh.
Officials say residents should be prepared for the possibility for flooding, power outages and freezing rain throughout the county during the storm.
