The lanes of I-287 to I-95 northbound have reopened after a rolled over tractor-trailer was cleared from the ramp.
The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. when a tractor-trailer overturned on the ramp for I-95 North just past Exit 12. Police report that the driver sustained only minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Although the truck was the only vehicle involved, the accident caused significant disruptions to the morning commute. Cranes were brought in to right the rig for towing, and part of the railing needed to be replaced. As a result, the northbound ramp for I-95 was closed for over five hours, with traffic being diverted to I-95 South.
The accident led to major backups on I-287 East from Exit 11 and also on I-95 South, as many drivers attempted to get off at the Playland exit and navigate back north. The traffic spillover affected Mamaroneck as drivers sought alternative routes due to the standstill at the Playland exit.
The roadway finally reopened around 10:30 a.m. after the truck was removed and the railing repaired.
