Starting today, travelers arriving in New York will no longer be required to quarantine.

The easing of restrictions comes as there is a spike in new cases in dozens of states.

That has federal health officials urging state officials and residents to remain vigilant.

CDC officials say there's now about 62,000 new COVID-19 cases per day. That's a nearly 12% increase from a week ago.

The White House COVID-19 Response Team is urging governors and mayors to maintain or reinstate the mask mandate.

“We need to keep case numbers down so we can save lives, give people the chance to get vaccinated in April, May and June so we can enter the summer on the strongest footing possible,” says Andy Slavitt, White House COVID-19 response senior advisor.

Even though it's no longer required, the state health department still recommends quarantine after domestic travel as an added precaution.
