Truck tumbles down embankment with driver inside
A cement truck fell down a 20-foot embankment at a Monsey construction site, causing quite a mess Monday.
Officials said the truck was backing up a driveway to put cement into a hole when the ground suddenly buckled. The truck was hauling 40,000 pounds of cement.
Crews had to get the truck free quickly. Monsey Fire Department Chief Douglas Perry said if the cement had a chance to cure, the extra weight would have made it very difficult to remove the truck.
Crews eventually used two cranes to get the truck upright and tow it away.
The driver, who was too shaken up to speak to News 12 Hudson Valley, climbed out of the truck before rescue workers got to the scene. Luckily, he only suffered a hurt finger.
A building inspector and an Occupational Safety and Health Administration representative later arrived at the scene to investigate the incident.
