The Transportation Security Administration is reminding travelers ahead of the holiday weekend that there have been some changes in procedures since the last time many have flown.

The TSA is asking travelers keep phones and keys in carry-on luggage instead of putting them in the bins. They say this helps to eliminate "touch points.”

he other major change is that you don’t need to show your boarding pass at TSA checkpoints. Instead, you just need to hand over your license or your passport to a new machine.

“Credential authentication technology, or CAT, has algorithms in it to detect all 50 states and territories, every driver’s license as well as state-issued ID, and also passports,” says Robert Duffy, the TSA federal security director at LaGuardia Airport. “We can take a look at that, scan it and we will know the identification presented to us is legitimate, or if it's fraudulent, we would call the Port Authority Police Department.”

Some rules have stayed the same, including the liquids that you can and cannot bring on the plane. A large amount of hand sanitizer and a tub of sanitizing wipes are allowed, but other liquids are not.

The TSA recommends travelers arrive at least two hours early for flights, even for domestic travel.
