Two police officers in Orange County are being commended for their actions that saved a senior citizen after he suffered cardiac arrest.
Town of Tuxedo Police Officer Gerard Shiloh and Detective Stefan Christian were on duty Nov. 6, 2020 and responded to a call of an elderly man who wasn’t breathing, according to Chief John Trazino. Trazino says the men administered CPR and delivered shocks through an AED, stabilizing the patient and returning his self breathing until the ambulance arrived.
Trazino took over as chief in October, learned of the incident and wanted to reward the officers – even though the incident was more than two years ago.
“There’s no expiration date for giving medals for a job above and beyond,” said Trazino.
The patient’s family did not wish to be identified, but provided a statement:
“We are so thankful to everyone involved who made this medical emergency have a happy outcome. We would like to stress the importance of training and education in emergency procedures for families and professionals, CPR specifically. Everyone that day knew exactly what to do. We are so grateful for their skilled work,” signed a lucky family in Tuxedo.
Officer Shiloh and Detective Christian will receive official police commendations May 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall. The public is welcome to attend or view online live by visiting www.tuxedogov.org.
