Tuxedo ski resort draws backlash
Hundreds of people who bought multi-year season passes for a local ski resort have been told the tickets are no longer valid.
The problems began after new owners took over Tuxedo Ridge Ski Resort, say the resort-goers. Carol Stachelek, of Tuxedo, says she was counting on hitting the slopes again this winter until she received a letter in the mail.
?In businesses you [have to] find other ways. You don't hurt your loyal customer base,? she says. ?That's what they're doing. It's just bad will.?
Stachelek says she paid $1,200 for four season passes, which are supposed to be valid for three years. However, she says new ownership deemed that honoring the passes for more than one year was ?not financially feasible.?
The resort?s management says they weren?t paid for the passes - the previous owners were. They say that honoring the tickets would have been too big a financial hit.
?We feel horribly about it. It's a horrible situation all around,? says Stephanie Cole, who works at Tuxedo Ridge. ?We're doing our best.?
Cole has fielded several angry calls from people with the multi-year passes and says she tries to explain that previous ownership created the hubbub.
