Of all the morning rounds, only a couple of U.S. Open players finished in red figures.

Bubba Watson was among the lucky players to shoot 1 under par. However, he says Mother Nature added to an already difficult course.

“Yeah, so it was a little bit more wind out there, and then total opposite direction,” says Watson. “Number one, gosh, we had -- everybody was hitting little sand wedges in there. Today I think I had a 7-iron in there just because of the cold and the wind.”

Xander Shauffele also agreed that the wind can make courses tricky, saying in part, “The wind can make a par-3 course difficult, so put that on a U.S. Open setup, it's going to be even more so. It's firming up the greens a little bit, and the pins are in trickier spots. It'll be a fun afternoon to watch on TV.”
