Church bells across the nation tolled at noon Friday as part of a national day of mourning in honor of the 32 students fatally gunned down at Virginia Tech.
All across Virginia Tech there were signs the campus has been scarred by an unthinkable tragedy. On Monday, Virginia Tech senior Cho Seung-Hui went on a shooting spree, methodically killing 32 people before taking his own life.
The tragedy touched Hudson Valley as one of the victims was 19-year-old Caitlin Hammaren, of Westtown. Hammaren graduated Minisink Valley High School in 2005 as an honor student.
Students at Virginia Tech wrote down their thoughts on a message board for the victims. Nearby, the ground was laid with flowers and photos for Hammaren. Her friends reflected on the life that could have been.
Francis Gemini says she will most remember Hammaren?s strength. Everyone grieving her untimely death is praying that her strength will somehow live on through them during this most difficult time.
Hammaren and the other victims will be awarded diplomas from the college posthumously in May.Related Information A tribute of song and prayer for Virginia Tech victims Student from Orange County victim of VA massacre
