Rockland County Executive Scott Vanderhoef was sworn in Tuesday for a record fifth term in office.
During the inauguration ceremony, which was held at Rockland Community College in Suffern, Vanderhoef spoke about the major challenges ahead, including a dire fiscal situation in Albany that could negatively affect the county.
Other challenges the county faces include unemployment and the financing of the I-287 Tappan Zee Bridge project.
"The challenges are unprecedented, but we are committed to meeting them head-on," Vanderhoef said.
Vanderhoef's fifth consecutive victory came during a November 2009 election, which proved politically fatal for many incumbents.
"I am very humbled by their faith in me," he says.
