News 12 spoke with small businesses in the Village of Nyack a day after Christmas to see how the holiday shopping season has been for them.

"It's been a very positive experience," said Lindsay Owen, the new owner of Maria Luisa Boutique. She has been managing it for the last decade and said this holiday season brought a nearly 10% increase in business year over year.

"I think that customers are truly valuing handmade gifts with a soul and a story and pieces that are going to be future heirlooms," said Owen.

Other neighboring small businesses on South Broadway in the village said foot traffic has been slow. They believe online retail and recent bad weather are possible reasons.

"The season has been doing pretty good, always can do better," said Jodi Vancampen at Nyack Treasures, which opened its doors in June.

"Comparatively, over the last three holidays that we've had here, holiday sales certainly are down," said Morgana Brennan at Modern Druid, which has been in business since 2021.

All three businesses told News 12 they are grateful for those customers who shop locally.
