Volunteer group of nurses pay tribute to colleagues with creation of Hudson Valley Nurses Honor Guard

News 12 is continuing to honor Hudson Valley nurses this National Nurses Week, including a group of local nurses who volunteer to pay their respects to colleagues who have died.
The group call themselves the Hudson Valley Nurses Honor Guard and travel to six Hudson Valley counties including Westchester, Orange, Dutchess, Putnam, Sullivan and Ulster, to attend funeral services and living tributes for nurses.
They say their hope is to make sure that no nurse is forgotten.
“We share bonds with each other that are long lasting, and we have a lot of the same intimate things, stressful things that occur,” says Brenda Taylor, president of the Hudson Valley Nurses Honor Guard.
The group was founded in 2022 and mirrors similar groups for nurses nationwide that provide uniformed, end-of-life and funeral services for their professional colleagues.
The Hudson Valley Nurses Honor Guard was recently recognized with a proclamation from the state Senate for their exemplary service.
