Wake services were held in Scarsdale Thursday night to remember the life of a veteran Westchester County firefighter who died of 9/11-related cancer.

Retired Fire Chief Daniel Raftery died on Sunday at 74.

Raftery led several members of his department down to the World Trade Center on Sept. 1, 2001, to assist in the search for missing civilians and first responders.

Raftery joined the Greenville Fire Department in 1973.

He was fire chief until he retired in 2020.

Raftery's funeral is scheduled for Friday at Sacred Heart Church in Hartsdale.
