Wallkill EMS recovers more than $16K in unclaimed funds; state says Orange County has nearly $107M waiting
State officials said Orange County residents, businesses and nonprofits have nearly $107 million in unclaimed funds waiting to be claimed.

The Town of Wallkill Emergency Medical Services has recovered more than $16,000 in unclaimed funds, state officials announced.
New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and state Sen. James Skoufis joined local officials to present Wallkill EMS with a check for $16,035.32 and encourage Orange County residents, businesses and nonprofits to search for unclaimed funds.
Officials said the EMS agency had been unable to access several insurance payments and checks it never received. The money was eventually turned over to the state's Office of Unclaimed Funds and later recovered with assistance from Skoufis' office.
State officials said Orange County residents, businesses and nonprofits have nearly $107 million in unclaimed funds waiting to be claimed.
Unclaimed funds can include money from old bank accounts, uncashed checks, stock certificates and unused gift cards that have been turned over to the state as abandoned property.
DiNapoli's Office of Unclaimed Funds returns more than $2 million each day. Officials said there is no fee or time limit to claim the money.
