A Warwick teenager died Thursday in a crash on Route 17M in Blooming Grove.
Police say Bryant Chavez, 17, hit a patch of black ice, lost control of the minivan he was driving and crashed head on into a commuter bus.
Chavez was a senior at Warwick Valley High School. His former teacher, Marilyn Brozycki Smith, says Chavez was a diligent student who hoped to become an engineer.
?He knew that education was key,? Brozycki Smith says. ?That's something his parents instilled in him.?
Chavez studied auto technology at Orange-Ulster Boces and planned to go to the nearby SUNY Orange in the fall.
?He was really nice to me,? says classmate Laura Picozzi. ?It's just really upsetting this happened to him.?
Warwick Valley High School is accepting donations on behalf of the Chavez family. Grief counselors are available at the school and at Orange-Ulster Boces.
Meanwhile, two passengers aboard the bus were treated for minor injuries and are expected to recover.
