The Washingtonville Town Hall, which was severely damaged by Hurricane Irene over the summer, was demolished today on West Main Street.
Mayor Kevin Hudson says numerous homes and businesses were destroyed by the storm, and many others remained under water for several days, the Town Hall included.
Village offices and the local court have already moved into a building on Fairlawn Drive. The police department, whose building also suffered extensive damage, is expected make the move there as well.
The cost to demolish the old village hall and renovate the new one is $1.5 million, some or all of which local officials hope to get back from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
