Water concerns surround S. Blooming Grove development
The village and planning boards of South Blooming Grove came together Thursday night to hear what the public had to say about the proposed Clovewood Project, and most of the questions were about how water would be supplied to the new development.
The proposal calls for an additional 600 homes to be built on a property known as Lake Anne, which is just over 700 acres of land off Route 208. A Hasidic developer is looker to raze the existing abandoned buildings and replace them with the 600 four-bedroom structures.
But in a village with water restrictions in place since the 1960s, residents are questioning from where the water will come. According to state regulations, 440 gallons of water must be provided each day for those proposed homes. The developer's draft proposal says that water would be pumped from new wells to be installed on site.
Community members also cite traffic, increased congestion sewage treatment, infrastructure and school transportation as other sources of concern.
The comments will be included in the village's draft scope, which will be made public in the coming days.
