Between shopping, baking and a laundry list of other things to do, a lot of people find themselves overwhelmed by stress during the holidays.
Julie Schwartz, a certified wellness coach and registered dietitian, says most of the stressors during the holidays are people getting overly excited and overcommitting themselves. This also includes people spreading themselves too thin with money or juggling time between numerous chores.
Schwartz says one way to curb stress is to manage expectations. "We tend to go in, expecting it to be this great, joyous occasions, and it is, but at the same time, there's also some disappointment there," she says.
Another way is stick to what you usually do. Schwartz says this includes keeping your normal sleeping and eating schedules, and to manage your sleep routine. She also recommends exercising to blow off some steam.
Schwartz's final tip is to cut yourself a break and prioritize what's special about the season. If something isn't done or doesn't fit into your schedule, most people won't even notice, she says.
