West Haverstaw man among 3 injured in chopper crash
A West Haverstraw man was among three people on board a Black Hawk helicopter that crashed at a Maryland golf course during a training exercise.
One person was killed and two others - including West Point graduate Capt. Terikazu Onoda - were injured.
Neighbor Carolyn Heckett says Onoda comes from a tight-knit family and also has young children. In 2013, he was recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration by being added to its prestigious Database for Exceeded Education, Licensing and Medical Standards.
U.S. Army officials say the helicopter went down in a Maryland golf course Monday afternoon; Spc. Jeremy Tomlin, of Tennessee, was killed.
The pilot and Capt. Onoda remain in critical condition.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
