Court-martial procedures began Monday for a West Point senior charged with raping two former female cadets.
A defense attorney for 22-year-old Cadet Lonnie Story began the court martial Monday by cross-examining one of the alleged victims. The 21-year-old woman is a former Army cadet who says she was raped by Story last October after a night of partying in Manhattan. The defense is attempting to show inconsistencies between the woman's current testimony and her original statements to investigators. Story?s defense is also attempting to prove the sex was consensual.
Story is also charged with raping another cadet on a separate occasion in January of 2005. The court-martial is expected to last throughout the week. A five-person panel will decide the fate of Cadet Story. If convicted, Story faces expulsion from the military academy and a possible life sentence.
